The city edit Issue 01
The Cheltenham Pilates Edit
Cheltenham has developed one of the West Country's most varied reformer scenes: polished group studios sit behind the Brewery Quarter and along the High Street, while physiotherapy-led rooms and Cotswold village studios make the quieter case for apparatus Pilates.
The long read
Pilates in Cheltenham, neighbourhood by neighbourhood.
Begin in the centre, where The Studio brings a high-performance mix of dynamic reformer and strength to Oxford Passage. A short walk away, P.I.LATES runs eight-person reformer groups and a smaller Contrology apparatus room from Normandy House; its three-class introduction is the clearest way to compare the two formats. Cheltenham Pilates & Yoga, in Sherborne Place, is the established counterpoint, combining group reformer with private equipment teaching after two decades in town.
South-west of the Promenade, Reform117 gives Andover Road a compact boutique room for dynamic reformer, gentler chair-and-reformer sessions and Yogaformer. Portland Pilates & Physio keeps groups to four and works alongside physiotherapy, while Flux at Cheltenham Film Studios pairs reformer with strength and sports therapy. These are different propositions: one is rhythmic and studio-led, another deliberately clinical, another designed around training and recovery.
The Cotswold edge matters here. KPilates teaches group and personalised reformer in Brockhampton, while Core & Co's Elkstone studio offers dynamic, gentle and beginner series from a converted rural setting. Neither belongs in a town-centre walking itinerary; both reward building the class into a longer village-and-countryside morning.
Introductory prices make several rooms easy to test: P.I.LATES publishes three reformer classes for £45, Cheltenham Pilates & Yoga offers two group classes for £28, and KPilates publishes its private and small-group rates. Elsewhere, use the live booking route and choose by class size, teaching style and the journey you can sustain rather than by postcode alone.
